RTA finishes the Oud Metha and Al Asayel road project: 4 bridges, 2 tunnels and a 20 minute run cut to 5
The Roads and Transport Authority confirmed on 20 September 2026 that all parts of the Oud Metha Road and Al Asayel Street project are now open. The project falls under the wider Sheikh Rashid Corridor programme and was 60 per cent complete on 4 January 2026, with the first bridges from Al Asayel Street onto Al Khail Road northbound opening in March 2026.
Capacity on Oud Metha Road rises from 10,400 vehicles an hour in both directions to 15,600, an increase of 50 per cent. The RTA states the peak run that used to take 20 minutes now takes 5.
Scope of works
4 intersections were rebuilt, producing 4 bridges and 2 tunnels totalling 4,300 metres, along with 14 kilometres of road works. The corridor passes through Za'abeel, Al Jaddaf, Oud Metha and Umm Hurair, an area the RTA expects to hold more than 420,000 residents by 2030.
