Emirates Road Widening Opens 30 August: RTA Adds Two Lanes on the 5km Approach From Sharjah Toward Wadi Al Amardi

The Roads and Transport Authority is widening a 5 kilometre stretch of Emirates Road from six lanes to eight, opening to traffic on Sunday, 30 August. The new lanes serve the approach from Sharjah toward Wadi Al Amardi on Dubai's eastern side.

Capacity on the widened section increases from 12,000 to 16,000 vehicles an hour, a rise of about a third. The RTA expects peak journey times to fall by as much as 25 per cent. Emirates Road carries more than 240,000 vehicles a day in both directions, linking Dubai with Sharjah and the Northern Emirates.

The stretch passes villa districts including Al Khawaneej, Wadi Al Amardi and Al Aweer, areas that have added housing this year. The RTA announced the opening through the Emirates News Agency on 28 August, two days ahead of the new lanes taking effect, and framed it as part of wider capacity work across Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

Dubai Luxury Home Sales Hit a Record: 296 Homes Above $10 Million Sold in H1 2026, Led by Dubai Hills Estate and Palm Jumeirah

Dubai's prime market has never opened a year this strongly. Knight Frank counted 296 sales above 10 million dollars in the first half of 2026, worth 5.1 billion dollars and up 16 percent on 2025, the busiest first half on record. The second quarter alone logged 26 deals above 25 million dollars. Where the money went Dubai Hills Estate led with 51 sales, just ahead of Palm Jumeirah on 50 and Palm Jebel Ali on 40, whose villas will not complete before 2028. The trophies included a 114.9 million dollar apartment at Aman Residences and a 152.5 million dollar plot on Naia Island. Yet the wider market cooled, with sales down around 14 percent. UAE Tenant Screening Goes Live: Dubai Landlords Can Now Check a Renter's Credit Score Through UAE PASS

Private landlords in the UAE can now check a prospective tenant's credit history before signing a lease. Etihad Credit Bureau has launched a Tenant Screening service that sends an applicant's credit score directly to a landlord's phone, once the tenant approves the release through UAE PASS. The tool, built with UAE digital government partners, was previewed at GITEX and is now live in the bureau's app, extending a check once reserved for banks to individual landlords. How it works Landlords enter the applicant's Emirates ID in the app and pay a fee via Apple Pay or Google Pay. The tenant is notified in UAE PASS and can approve or reject. No consent means no data, and refused or expired requests are refunded. Approved requests return a single score, not the full credit file, summarising repayment behaviour rather than income.
