Dubai rates workers' accommodation Platinum, Gold and Silver: 1,417 buildings surveyed and a 3.7 sq m minimum sleeping area

Dubai Municipality announced on 18 September 2026 that it has placed workers' accommodation across the emirate onto a single rating system for the first time. The survey covered 1,417 buildings in the city's workers' areas, assessed for structural condition and compliance with health and safety rules.
Of those, 19 buildings received model accommodation status: 3 Platinum, 9 Gold and 7 Silver, under a unified electronic classification now applied to every inspected building.
New planning and design standards accompany the ratings. Each resident must have at least 3.7 square metres of sleeping area. Total built floor area is set at 8.9 to 10.3 square metres per person, with 0.75 to 1.5 square metres per person of recreational and outdoor space.
A shared government database of workers' areas holds the statistics used to prioritise infrastructure work, including pedestrian paths, pavements and parking. The package supports the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the Quality of Life Strategy 2033.
