Dubai ranks 1st worldwide for fintech in GFCI 40: what it means for DIFC office space

The Global Financial Centres Index 40, published on 16 September 2026 by Z/Yen and the China Development Institute, ranked Dubai first in the world for fintech. Dubai is the only financial centre in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia in the index's global top 10 overall.
The index also placed Dubai 2nd for professional services, 6th for reputation and 1st for future potential, a category it has led for 4 consecutive editions. Its overall rank is 9th, down 2 places from the previous year. The results are drawn from 39,531 assessments by finance professionals against 143 measured factors.
DIFC Governor Essa Kazim and DIFC Authority CEO Arif Amiri linked the ranking to the centre's growth. DIFC opened in 2004 and now hosts more than 10,000 active firms and over 50,000 people. Its Zabeel expansion will add about 17.7 million sq ft of office space, targeting more than 42,000 companies and a workforce above 125,000.
