Dubai Municipality surveying robot speeds up home handovers: 472 days of waiting cut at Wadi Al Amardi

Dubai Municipality announced on 11 September 2026 that it has deployed a LiDAR surveying robot for geospatial work, with its first major assignment being the final survey of completed houses at the Wadi Al Amardi housing project for UAE nationals. A final survey certificate is required before a home handover can close, and the robot collects coordinates, panoramic images, video and 3D point clouds largely on its own, with staff supervising rather than measuring.
Figures reported
At Wadi Al Amardi, using the robot removed 472 days of combined customer waiting time, cut operating costs by 90 per cent, and saved the equivalent of 24 days of fieldwork plus 40 hours of office processing. Maitha Al Nuaimi, director of the municipality's GIS Centre Department, and Saeed Al Falasi, director of the Survey Department, confirmed the robot will now be folded into routine field operations and extended to more residential communities, with survey output moving from 2D drawings to reusable 3D models.
