Dubai Mallathon 2026 ends with 160,475 walkers: what 290 million steps mean for mall retail rents

Dubai Mallathon 2026, the second edition of the summer walking and running programme held inside Dubai shopping centres, ended on 15 September 2026. Organisers confirmed the final participant count of 160,475 on 18 September.

The event ran from 15 June to 15 September, and participants logged more than 290 million steps across seven malls: Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Hills Mall, City Centre Mirdif, City Centre Deira, Dubai Festival City Mall and Ibn Battuta Mall. DIFC and Dubai International Airport took part for the first time this year.

The 2025 edition of the Mallathon set a Guinness World Record with more than 1,300 runners in a single mall race.

Retail rents in Dubai malls are negotiated on footfall figures, and the Mallathon's numbers arrive during what is normally the slowest quarter of the year for retail spending.
