Dubai International Film Festival returns on 8 December 2027: what the 15th edition means for hotels and Studio City

The Dubai Media Council has confirmed that the 15th Dubai International Film Festival will open on 8 December 2027. The announcement came on 17 September, the closing day of the Arab Media Summit. The festival has been on pause since its 14th edition in 2017.
Mona Ghanem Al Marri, vice chairperson and managing director of the Dubai Media Council, said the organisers do not intend to recreate the festival of the 2010s. The programme will be built around Middle Eastern cinema, with a working market that brings filmmakers, producers, talent and investors together. Hesham Sultan Al Olama, chief executive of the Dubai Films and Games Commission, said the return should give film production in Dubai and the wider region fresh momentum.
No venue has been named. Earlier editions ran each December at Madinat Jumeirah. The festival launched in 2004 and grew into the biggest film event in the Middle East before it was shelved in 2018.
December is already the strongest month of the year for Dubai hotels and holiday homes. The city's film business is based in Dubai Studio City, Dubai Production City and Dubai Media City.
