Al Qiyadah Intersection Upgrade: RTA Adds a New Left-Turn Lane Off Al Ittihad Road to Cut Peak Waits 15%

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has finished a set of upgrades at Al Qiyadah Intersection on Al Ittihad Road, the main route between Dubai and Sharjah. The RTA expects peak hour waiting times at the junction to fall by up to 15 per cent.

The main change is a new left turn lane for traffic leaving Al Ittihad Road onto Abu Hail Street toward Salah Al Din Street. The RTA created the extra space by removing a stretch of parallel parking and trimming part of the central median, then adjusted the signal timings to match the new layout.

Other work completed

The project also included fresh paving and repaired footpaths, new concrete barriers where the layout changed, extra parking bays along Abu Hail Street, and new lighting poles at existing parking areas. Al Qiyadah sorts traffic into Abu Hail, Salah Al Din and Al Quds Streets in Deira.
